Forbes: Trump vs. Clinton on Immigration

 |  By: Mike Opperman

In a column published this week, Forbes magazine explores proposed immigration policies by both presidential candidates.

Each candidate has distinct views on immigration reform. Trump has proposed building a wall to better regulate illegal immigrant traffic into the country. While Clinton’s plans are less defined, she focuses more on legalization of existing immigrants.

This touches the surface of an extremely complicated issue, one that will continue far beyond the presidential election. Which party leads the Senate and House of Representatives, and the ability of those branches to work with whomever is in the Executive office, will also have significant impact.

Immigration reform has a tremendous impact on dairy operations. Immigrants make up more than half of general farm labor, and that number is significantly higher on large dairy operations. A seminar on the topic was held recently during World Dairy Expo, calling for dairy producers to make their representatives aware of the significance of the issue.
