a2 Milk Claims Referred to Federal Trade Commission
The National Advertising Division (NAD) has referred advertising claims by The a2 Milk Company (a2MC) to the Federal Trade Commission after a2MC declined to participate in a review of those advertising claims. The claims include “Easier on digestion” and “May help some avoid discomfort.”
NAD is administered by the Council of Better Business Bureau, and it is the Bureau’s investigative unit. The claims were initially challenged by the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF). NMPF asserts that the research underlying a2MC’s claims contains errors in study design, methodology and population selection, and that it is unreliable and clinically insignificant.
