August Class III Price Stays Strong
The USDA announced the Class III price for August 2019 at $17.60, five cents higher than July and $2.65 higher than a year ago. The Class IV price dropped 16 cents to $16.74, but is still $2.11 higher than August 2018.
Reflecting the milk price stability, component prices held steady as well. The butterfat price dropped nearly 3 cents from July, while the protein price rose just over 4 cents. Likewise, product prices held nearly even as well with butter dropping 2.3 cents and cheese improving almost ½ cent. As expected, all component prices remain higher than year-ago levels.
