China to Improve Dairy Industry

China has been and will continue to be an economic driving force in the dairy industry. Could their reliance on dairy imports begin to decline? According to Reuters, China is preparing to raise the scale and quality of their domestic dairy industry. The country’s milk production has been steadily growing for years. With more than 1 million dairy farmers, China’s agriculture minister says the dairy sector is not reaching its full potential.

"For the people's wellbeing, to increase rural employment, and to guarantee the supply of important agricultural products, we must strongly develop the dairy sector," he said in a speech published on the Chinese government's official website on Monday.

 Cost of production and standardized products are two of the main factors inhibiting the industry.
