Cold Storage Report Mixed Bag for Dairy

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Cold Storage January report, released this week, was a mixed bag for dairy.

Butter in storage was up just 1% from a year ago, but up 33% from December.

Cheese was more mixed. Total natural cheese stocks were up 7% from a year ago, pretty much unchanged (down just 5 million lb) from a year ago. American cheese stocks were up just 2% from a year ago, while Swiss was up 19% and other natural cheese was up 14%. But only Swiss was up substantially (8%) from the December storage report.
