Dairy Cow Culling Picks Up, But Just a Bit
Some 12,600 more dairy cows were sent to slaughter in federally inspected plants in November compared to a year ago, reports the United States Department of Agriculture.
But on a daily basis, that’s an uptick of just 50 head because November 2016 had one more business day than November 2015. November culling over October was up 6,000 head, or 2.5%.
Year-to-date, culling is down about 27,000 head from 2015, or about 1%.
