Dairy Farmers Still Culling Heavily
Dairy farmers culled 258,000 cows in May, 13,000 head more than a year ago, or an increase of 5.3%, the United States Department of Agriculture reported today.
Culling was down from April, however, when farmers sold 268,500 cows.
For the year, culling is up 75,000 head in the first five months, an increase of 5.6%.
USDA reported earlier this week cow numbers are down 89,000 head from a year ago, but up 5,000 from April.
