Dean Foods To Close A Milk Plant In Illinois
Dean Foods plans to close one of their milk bottling plants in Illinois this year.
Dean Foods’ Huntley dairy plant and office will close in September resulting in 131 people losing their jobs.
This plant is one of several Dean Foods plans to close by the end of the year. In its 2017 annual investors report, the company attributed shutting down plants to decreased dairy consumption trends and a highly competitive industry, according to the Associated Press.
"The challenges faced in 2017 served as a catalyst to drive a sense of urgency around programmatic and structural changes in the second half of the year and into 2018," the report said.
Dean Foods continues to blame Walmart for its financial woes. However, just last week the company decided to acquire majority ownership in a plant-based milk brand.
This story is developing. As of Tuesday, July 10 at 1:45 Dean Foods had not responded to requests for information on how many farmers will be impacted by this decision. Check back for updates.
