DFA Acquires Cumberland Dairy

Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) announced today that it is acquiring Cumberland Dairy, a family-owned processor of ultra-pasteurized dairy products based in Bridgeton, N.J.

Cumberland dairy serves the nation’s top quick-serve restaurants, convenience and grocery chains, wholesale food distributors, fine-casual restaurants and dessert concepts to a variety of customers. The acquisition of Cumberland aligns with DFA’s strategy to expand the co-op's commercial ownership into extended shelf-life processing, says Rick Smith, DFA president and CEO.

“This acquisition represents a commitment by our farmer-owners to expand our investments in processing and to continue to grow the U.S. dairy industry,”  he says.

No terms of the agreement were released. However, the business will continue to operate as Cumberland Dairy and employees will retain their current positions. The Catalana family and Cumberland’s existing management team will continue to manage all day-to-day operations, including milk procurement, production and customer relationships.
