DFA Powder Plant in Kansas Sustains Fire Damage

 |  By: Jim Dickrell

A dry milk powder processing plant owned and operated by Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) in Garden City, Kan., sustained close to $1 million in damages due to a fire that erupted last Wednesday.

According to a report in The Garden City Telegram, Garden City fire fighters battled the blaze for more than four hours. Thirty-four people were safely evacuated from the building and none were hurt.

DFA confirmed the fire, saying an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway but that no further details are available at this time. DFA also did not say how long the plant might be out of operation.

The damage estimate, noted above, was made by Garden City Fire Chief Allen Shelton.
