February Dairy Cow Slaughter Up Just a Tad

When adjusted for actual business days, dairy cow slaughter was up about 450 cows per day in February compared to last year, the United States Department of Agriculture reported this week.

February 2017 had one more business day than February 2016, with 253,000 dairy cows processed through federally inspected plants last month. February cow slaughter was 150 head per day slower than January.

Year-to-date, 522,000 head have been culled—just about even with last year.
