Fonterra May Let Farmers Sell Shares to Reduce Debt

Farmers around the world are struggling due to low milk prices, and New Zealand is no different.

But Fonterra Cooperative has an idea that might help. According to, Fonterra is considering allowing farmers to lower their debt load by selling their ‘wet shares,” which are shares based on milk production.

If Fonterra goes through with the effort, it would only be the second time the company has done this. The first time was in 2012, which was also a year of incredibly slim margins. Read the full story here.
