Idaho Dairymen Circulate Labor Petition
The Idaho Dairymen’s Association (IDA) is hoping to collect 10,000 signatures by the end of February urging Congress to develop a visa program for dairy workers.
“We fully expect that the new Administration will need to fulfill its campaign promise of increased border security,” says Tony VanderHulst, IDA President. “Our hope is that once those measures are taken, a serious effort can begin in reforming our nation’s immigration policies. The success of agricultural states like Idaho will depend on it.”
IDA believes the new immigration program should have three features:
1) legal status for the current experienced workforce;
2) access to year-round workers;
3) an effective program for legal new workers when they are needed in the future.
