June Dairy Cow Culling Up 1%
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported this afternoon that June dairy cow culling through federally inspected slaughter plants was up 2,200 head, or roughly 1%, over June 2015.
June 2016 culling over May culling was up 9,100 head, or 4.2%. Year-to-date, culling is running slightly behind last year. USDA reports 1,449,300 head have been slaughtered through June, 7,400 head fewer than last year, or 0.5%.
