Land O’Lakes Withdraws Support for Cong. Steve King
In a statement released today, Land O’Lakes (LOL) announced it is withdrawing its support for Cong. Steve King (R., Iowa) and will no longer contribute to his campaign for re-election.
LOL came under fire after the Washington Post this weekend published an article about LOL’s contribution to King, who allegedly voiced support for white nationalism. According to press accounts, LOL contributed $2,500 to King’s campaign, a fraction of the $400,000 in political contributions it has made this year.
In the statement released today, LOL said:
The Land O’Lakes, Inc. PAC has traditionally contributed to lawmakers of both parties that represent the communities where our members and employees live and work and are also on committees that oversee policies that directly impact our farmer owners. We take our civic responsibility seriously, want our contributions to be a positive force for good and also seek to ensure that recipients of our contributions uphold our company’s values. On that basis, we have determined that our PAC will no longer support Rep. Steve King moving forward.
