May Milk Production Up 1.2% [VIDEO]

The United States Department of Agriculture reported this afternoon May milk production was up 1.2%, with cow numbers up 3,000 head over a year ago.

The only bit of good news was that cow numbers have remained steady, at 9.327 million head, for the past three months.

California continued its monthly slide in milk output and cow numbers, with milk production down 2.8% and cow numbers down 6,000. This is the 16th consecutive month of milk production decline for the Golden State.

The biggest percentage gainers in milk output were South Dakota, up 9.5%, and Michigan, up 6.9%. Cow numbers were up 9,000 head in South Dakota and 11,000 head in Michigan. New York was up 4.9% in milk production, and Wisconsin was up 4.2%.
