More Than 1,000 Dairy Farms in England and Whales Have Closed Since 2013
According to England’s Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), 1 in 10 dairy farmers have gone out of business since 2013 England’s news service BBC reports. AHDB credits the liquidation to low milk prices. Last year members of the country’s Farmers’ Union protested in support of higher milk prices or government help without success. BBC reports farmers in the area were still being paid 10 pence per liter less than the cost of production. As the dust settles from the Brexit Vote, only time will tell what happens to milk prices in the region.
